are americans getting fatter?

i knew americans were getting fatter from demographics
as well as personal observation, but i got more
evidence of this today. i went to do some clothes
shopping for spring stuff. im way beyond overdue
for some new threads.

maybe it was the store i chose, im not sure exactly.
however, i was pleasantly surprised to find i now wear a size
thats 4 to 6 sizes smaller than i have worn in many years.
its wierding me out a little because i havent worn a
size this small since high school. im defnately
somewhat larger overall than i was at age 14 or 15.

recently ive lost maybe 5 lbs tops but this shouldnt
explain such a huge size decrease for me.
all i can dertermine is maybe clothing manufacturers
are now changing thier sizes to reflect much larger
"average" sized women.

wierd.
i never considered myself "xtra small" before.
all my life ive fit exactly in size medium.
really, i am not a tiny person nor am i a giant,
so this is just seems wrong to me.

are europeans more normal sized?
