A theme that has come up for me recently is 'standing on the shoulders of giants'

both from a personal perspective, thinking about my family and appreciating the things my mom and dad did to get me where i am, and from a religious perspective, thinking about the fact that most western christians would trace their roots back to the church in rome, and my appreciation for the fact that their tactics were successful, though i wouldnt say the ends justify the means.
