As I take a break from fiddling with my new iPhone, I want to address a comic issue (see what I did there?) that I'm seeing more and more frequently these days: Company-ism.
What's Company-ism? Well, that's when someone walks into my store and proudly declares "Oh, I don't read books from "company x."
What? Are you serious?
It makes me sad to think that there are people out there missing out on great stories like Identity Crisis or Civil War simply because they feel they have to be loyal to a specific company.
Like Coke/Pepsi, or Mac/PC, choosing to follow only one just leads to you missing out (although there's some validity to the Mac/PC debate). You don't like Superman? Fine, but there is some great Batman stuff you need to read. You don't like Avengers? No problem, let's get you hooked up with some Astonishing X-Men.
There are so many great books and stories out there, to say that you only follow one company is idiotic in my humble, greatness-filled opinion.
So, to stop this madness, here are some recommendations by company. If you are a "Marvel Only" or a "DC Nation" kind of person, take this chance to break out of your bubble and experience some great stories and art.
DC Comics:
Kingdom Come
Identity Crisis
Batman: Hush
DC: The New Frontier
Superman For All Seasons
Marvel Comics:
The Death of Captain America
Ultimates
Civil War
Astonishing X-Men
Spider-Man: Blue
Image Comics:
Invincible
Walking Dead
Battle Pope
Top Shelf:
Essex County
Blankets
The Surrogates
IDW:
30 Days of Night
The Dreamer
Tank Girl
Vertigo (DC):
Preacher
Transmetropolitain
Y: The Last Man
Fables
ICON (Marvel):
Powers
Kick-Ass
Criminal
Dynamite:
The Boys
Just a Pilgrim
Project Superpowers
And many, many more. Explore. Enjoy. Open your mind. To borrow my co-host's catchphrase:
"That's all I'm sayin'"

May I just say, I'll always be a DC gal. Still, thanks for the lesson nerdlinger.
