As I was getting my things together I heard the rumbling. It was the kind of thing that you hear off in the distance, you acknowledge you heard it, but you aren't really paying any mind to it because yours is elsewhere. In this case double checking personal items. Keys- check. money- check. Sunglasses - check. The rumbling continued and suddenly I snapped my head around towards a door I couldn't see through, but that didn't stop me from pretending that I could. How could it be raining? It was sunny and nice a few minutes ago.

After returning my sunglasses to my desk, I saddled up and departed through the door into the parking lot to find once of Buffalo's little treasures. It was sunny and it was raining. The rain was warm and soothing. The sun was bright but somewhat annoying. Why was it annoying? Perhaps I was being a little close minded to the sun shower. Perhaps I don't like sun with my rain the same way I don't care for smoke with my air. Maybe my eyes simply needed a few moments to adjust, after all, how often to you have to squint your eyes from the brightness when it rains? I would have gone back in the building to equip my sunglasses but it's not like I have the duration of a Lord of the Rings movie to go out and get lunch.

I picked up the turkey sub from the usual lunchtime place a block from where I work and then slowly wandered back to return to my desk for dining and surfing. As I walked down that block I began to slow down. The rain and sunshine were having a strong effect on me. It was very enjoyable. I felt at ease. I was breathing deeply and savoring the air. I had almost forgot I was hungry and that the food was in my hand waiting to be eaten at my desk in only a few moments.

I returned to my desk, made ready the food, popped open the Vernors and sat back. The sub was one of the best I've had in some time. Was this because of the 10 minutes that had preceeded it? I suspect it might have been. It's exciting to learn that sometimes what you do right before you eat can influence the experience of the food itself. I'm curious to explore the possibilities. I think I'll be hungry again in a few hours.

Actually, that whole rant is a Family Guy quote...I don't have a novel I've been working on for three years...though I wish you good luck with yours!
