You'll have to forgive my pessimism, but I don't share many of the feelings that celebrating moderates and democrats feel after yesterday's Democratic turkey shoot.

With Rumsfeld being pulled from office, Virginia probably falling to the democrats, and republicans losing control of both the House and the Senate, many people are heralding in these new times as a new leaf for America, going back to a pre-1994 Democrat controlled government. Moderates are rejoicing many key moderate players stormed the offices of government under the democratic ticket as well, but I think both of these parties need to take the next few years with a grain of salt, and drop the jubilee for awhile.

The democrats may have swept the republicans out of office, but the republicans didn't bring their trash with them. There is still a war to fight, and the democrats are going to be hard pressed to deal with spiraling budget deficits and rising energy costs.

The democrats have spent the past several years screaming about the war, leading a self-righteous crusade of the blameless, whereas, everyone is to be blamed but them for our current problems.

Many democrats said they would not have endorsed the war, had they known that things would turn out the way they had.

How did they think it would end?

I saw a republican WMD pitch, which the democrats have attacked since late 2003 when we started initial operations. Forget WMDs for a second. Here's a guy who's attacked his neighboring countries constantly, whom has taken every opportunity to rob, torture, and kill his own people, and here is a party that doesn't think we're justified in going in and removing him?

Then the left wants us to get out of the country, but they aren't willing to appropriate the funds or resources to enable us to do just that. With a democrat controlled House Appropriations committee, I shudder to think what's going to happen in the upcoming term.

The bottom line is that moderates like John McCain are completely right; both parties have screwed up this war, and screwed it bad. The republicans did a bad job of executing and selling it, and the democrats did a poor job of stopping it.

The best we can hope for in the next few years is getting out of the war, fix the budget problems, and getting back on track. But that's all we're going to be able to do - get back on track. It's like we've spent the past four years backpedaling, and I really hope a democratic-led government will know how to play a good game of catch up.
