This is how much my hair has changed this year! Minus my blue extensions in January.. no piccies.

I also have a new column on- www.lacityzine.com every saturday morning.

Ok, so I had my interview. I thought it was better to write a note rather than explain how it went 60 times.

I did my portfolio snazzily, and I was happy with it. But I couldn't get my resume printed out anywhere. So I got the bus into North Hollywood, and there was a cyber cafe up the road from Universal studios, where my interview was. I got to the cafe, an hour before the interview, and it was CLOSED!

eep.. the studio had asked for it especially. So I stand there and stare at the door for a few minutes in shock. It's actually pouring down with rain (4th time in 2 months and a half). There's a frame shop next door, and I peek my head in there, since it's closest and I'm being soaked. This man comes rushing over, and I ask him about the cafe, and it's been shut for weeks. Great. So this man, Henry, whose shop it is, invites me in to use his computer and printer! How fab of him?

I settle down and spend 30 mins of him being the perfect host, me sat surrounded by frames and nice art. He played me great 30's musicals soundtracks and fed me nice mints.

So I get there, and wow, I got to go into the movie lot. I've never set foot in a lot before. I got through security, got my pass, and dawdled through a little, watching all the buggies go by and seeing who was about. I get there, and theres a few of us. We chat on for a while and one guy who works there was really canny.

I go in for the interview, and I'd been running it over in my head for ages what I was going to say, but it never quite came out. I was the only one to bring an art portfolio as usual (feels like being back on my degree). Everyone else just had small A4 files. So the woman makes me flick through my file, and I try to do justice to each page, and explain the story behind each piece.

So we sit down and she asks if I've approached any animation studios before with it, and I said yes. I just can't get hold of any elusive interviews! So we talk on, and I seem to be doing ok, I talk about story a lot, but I think she missed the point that I write by drawing first - to get a feel for the story/characters/setting *then* write. I guess I'm quite different in the way I do things. I think she felt that I was too arty for the writing position. So i tried to determinedly say that I was 50% writer and 50% artist, and switch between all the time.

Then of course, here comes the visa questions! I told her, no, I have no visa. The job I'd applied for was an internship with view to employment, like a trial really. So I said that I'm not letting being born in the wrong country stop me, and we could see what sort of visa I could get, or leave the country and come back in. Then she asked me how long I had left on my visa, and I said Jan 8th...

Then she said because of the skills I had , (and she liked my boring admin stuff!) that they'd be 'crazy not to hire you'. Good, right? And the job is meant to start as an internship, but the way she danced around, she implied that she'd consider just.. employing me. She said she would consider me, and I'll know by this Friday.. but even then, said for me to stay in touch, and I might get contacted after Friday at a later date anyway!

She sounds keen, no? I know the visa thing is annoying for an employer, and I'll understand if I'm turned down, as it was great of her to compliment me so much. There we go. God knows what's going to happen at this stage!!

xx

Klara I dont want to sound like a party pooper but you seriously need to read this The immigration process is complex and on reading about your situation you have very little chance of working here legally ....your only chance is a H1B which your employer needs to file (cost $5k) It would allow you to start work Oct 2008 but its already full for 2008
If you overstay after Jan 8th you will find yourself turned away next time you come in and probably be barred future entry. If you leave and then re-enter the US very quickly (within 2 months) you will get pullled by UCIS at port of entry and probably tunred back, you can't work without a social security number, you cant get an social secuirty number without a valid work related visa. Sorry but its a total nightmare and unless you get sponsored by a UK based US employer (L1a visa ...you need have worked for them at least 1 year in a senior postion ..thats what I did) or marry an American is almost impossible .....PM me if you want more info
