So I went out to Hard Rock Live last night to see the Vandals and the Adolescents. I didn't have a ticket and I was a tad worried that I wouldn't get in so I rushed as fast as I could to get to Universal. By the time I parked in their mall type parking structure it was already 7:30 and I knew it would take me a good 15-20 minutes to walk to the venue since it's on the opposite side of a friggin lake and with the huge crowd of people leaving the theme parks all. So I walked and got to the place at like 7:50 to find not a single person waiting outside. Usually there's a line or at least people hanging out outside waiting for friends. I walked up to the window and paid my $15 to get my ticket. Walked inside and there was maybe 25 people in the whole place. Keep in mind that Hard Rock Live holds around 2200.
By the end of the night I think MAYBE 600 people were there and that's me being generous. It was a great show regardless. The Adolescents tore that shit up! I only knew 2 of their songs (Amoeba and Kids of the Black Hole) which they played back to back to close the show but they won me over. They seemed genuinely in shock that so many kids knew their stuff. Their singer even said "wow, most of these kids weren't even alive when our record came out, some of you were just babies."
And the Vandals were fucking AMAZING. So much energy. And since I got there so early I was right up front on the guardrail for the entire show. I was close enough where I was actually able to yell out what song I wanted to hear when Dave asked and he heard me! I learned a valuable lesson that night though. If you go to a show and you're close enough and loud enough to yell out a song when asked to, make sure it's a song that doesn't make you look like a weirdo to other people. Cuz when I yelled out "MARRY ME!" these 2 girls started laughing.
At least Dave knew I wasn't asking to be his wife lol. They ended up playing it not right then but a few songs later. In fact out of all the songs they did, I think I only didn't know about 3 or 4 of them.
I feel bad now that I'm a huge Vandals fan and don't have any of their albums. I think I need to pick one up now ASAP.
