BRAIN EXERCISE:

Try brainstorming for a solution: Mary is divorced, thirty years old, mother of two sons, ages eleven and twelve. She lives in a three-bedroom apartment in a large city. She works full-time at minimum wage and is in a desperate financial situation, unable to pay the rent, credit card bills, auto payments, insurance, and other usual living expenses. Using brainstorming, come up with as many suggestions as you can to ease Mary's financial problems.

Sometimes the only way to step forward is to take a step back in order to change direction. Using this frame of mind, Mary needs to change her standard of living in order in to improve her current life troubles. For the same price, or cheaper, as a three-bedroom apartment in the city, Mary could get a house in the country. With this relocation a new job would be ideal, preferably one closer to home. To help cut cost of living Mary, and her family, can become much more independent of pricy services that are just common conveniences. Most electrical appliances have mechanical versions that do not require the cost of electricity. What electricity is needed can be aided by the addition of solar power. Turning the home into a miniature farm helps cut the cost of groceries. If there are any excess garden items, they could be sold as goods to also help out with expenses. Of course there are a handful of less ethical solutions as well; marry a wealthier man, claim bankruptcy, or even apply for welfare.
