The gluttony and rush to the senses of consuning now replaces past stimulations of the primitive mind. Flavors carry both history and new experiences. They can mark events and places taveled. With a more primitive mindset this would be especially true due to a mainly constant diet. So this leads to the question of how was the primitive mind satisfied by the daily efforts. There must be stimulation and interaction to foster development. I think their stimulation was found when interacting with their environment. Excitement could be found in running , viewing, hunting, scavanging. To live was a skill to be learned and taught. Yet the teacher was not neccessarily the teacher. Those who learned were not just viewers but active participants. I repeat active. Not Just Passive Observance. Sight, touch, smell were all desired and usefull. For many of us Americans these senses have betrayed us and made are minds servants to our desires. See the impulse shopping, eating, TV viewing. Now I find it hard to go through a day without willfully shutting my mind to advertisements or car alarms. How often do I allow myself to come in physical contact with objects, surroundings, if not people? And the stench of car exhaust prevents me from savoring the breath as all those wise sages suggest. I came to most of this thought while running in the heat. I stretched my mind across time to try and understand the rush I felt being equal, if not superior to my modern Tv viewing, web surfing, driving experiences. In the end I know there is so much to savor, but I also feel there is something of our nature that begs for more.Or maybe just less bullshit ooo aaa

maybe our ancestors didn't need stimulation though...the stress of survival probably provided enough. not as easy to take life for granted when the reality of losing it was harder to pad yourself against, and any "down" time was appreciated instead of squandered by filling it up with useless activity. i totally hear ya...i think one of the reasons we consume with such addictive abandon is because we're trying to fill up this hole that's been created by a life filled with too much "bullshit" and loss of connection with our environment. houses with controlled temp., cars too, rubber-soled shoes, asphalt, t.v., computers, meaningless jobs, crap food, and so much god-damn noise...how can you not numb out?
