Useful Japanese Phrases
I bought Lonely Planet's Japanese phrasebook, which is set out in sections, depending upon which situation you find yourself in.
The following are a small selection of some of the phrases in this book, with the Japanese words spelt phonetically in Western chatacters, chosen entirely at random-
wa-ta-shi o sek-kus no ta-me da-ke ni tsu-kat-te i-mas-

I do like a man who enjoys his Job
This has no immediate relevance, but it is one of my favourite anecdotes, told to me by my friend Mike in Hove-
One of his gay friends had come back from abroad, and whilst being frisked by a Customs Officer piped up "Ooh,I do like a man who enjoys his job" for which he was rewarded with a...

Take Me Out Tonight
Rachel was my singing partner again for "There is a Light that Never Goes Out" on Friday night, which I enjoyed enormously. There was even a fat,sad looking man dancing while we were singing, although I have a feeling it may have been the song rather than the singing that was enthusiastically received.
We arrived at the pub five minutes after closing time,having...

Man from Uranus arrives in Stockport
To be more precise, two of his CDs and one seven inch arrived at 3,Peel Street.
Can you imagine what music for celestial shopping centres would be like? Something like this, maybe.
On one of the CDs,MFU allegedly plays-Cello,analogue synthesiser, theremin, electric organ, tape machine and glockenspiel-with which he makes music that reminds me slightly of the soundtrack to John Carpenters excellent...

Anyway the director told us our references should be based on other pasolini movies, like "mama Roma" and another one i can't remember the name. but not the pervy ones, that's what he meant....

Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now
Fortunately this does not decribe my present mood, even if I don't seem to be getting very far at work.
Instead, this was the song I sang with my mate Rachel at an excellent traditional old pub between Upper Brook Street and the A6,near the Chinese supermarket. Can't remember the name of the pub though.
It was "full" of about 10 old locals...

Durex Question,Cornerhouse Quiz,Manchester
In the Quiz night at the Cornerhouse on Monday night, the teams were asked the following question-What does DUREX stand for?
Our (Stuart and the Six Dwarves) answer was-Durability (correct),Reliability (correct) and Extendability (wrong).
Although we got no marks, we did receive an honourable mention from the quizmaster for the funniest answer.

Soviet joke
One day, an old man went out in the streets of Moscow and started shouting: "How is this the Worker's Paradise? We never have enough food! We never have enough clothing!" and stuff like that. The KGB apprehended him, but decided that he was just harmless and senile, and that nobody would pay him any attention. Upon being released, the old man continued...
