The Calendar of Reason

Working my way through my guide to Paris, which of course has a section on the French Revolution, I read about the revolutionaries' plans for the calendar, which were put into operation in 1792.

1792 was year One.The twelve months of the year were named after the natural phemomena/seasons for that month, and weeks were altered to consist of ten days, three of course...

Goldfish Memory and a Mozart recital

Sunday before last, went to see an amusing Irish film called "Goldfish Memory". Set in Dublin, a fair summary of the film would be- A is seeing B-who is also seeing C,who is also seeing D,who gets back with A in between going out with F and C,probably at the same time.

This film has something for everyone, unless...

Christmas and New Year

I spent at my mums, which was OK-watched TV(Shrek- animation good, plot cliched;Harry Potter and the Philosphers Stone-damn good;and of course,"You've Been Framed", which goes the full gamut from hilarious (especially any videos involving animals) to completely pointless filler.

My favourite Christmas presents were the two CDs my brother gave me;"Where Will You Be At Christmas?",an excellent collection of blues recorded between 1917...

Monday Night Quiz at the Cornerhouse

We were not put off by last weeks' blatant attempt by the team next door to steal our answers.Just as well that most of 'em were wrong.

This week our truncated team consisted of me,Tori and her boyfriend Stewart, Bob(the brains of the team) and Dan.I had drunk a fair amount of Baltika before the quiz began, and obviously had...

We sat...

The Works Do was at the University, a big improvement on the awful Brittania Hotel where previous dos have been held. The room was large, well fitted out and had a decent sized bar, and the buffet was very good when it came. The DJ was pretty dodgy sounding but funny, and the music??Most of it was SHIT with a capital S,but at least it wasn't all Christmas related....
