Take Me Out Tonight

Rachel was my singing partner again for "There is a Light that Never Goes Out" on Friday night, which I enjoyed enormously. There was even a fat,sad looking man dancing while we were singing, although I have a feeling it may have been the song rather than the singing that was enthusiastically received.

We arrived at the pub five minutes after closing time, having had a lovely meal at the entirely vegetarian "Greenhouse" in Rusholme. We were served by an affable old hippy whose memory of what was on,what wasn't and what had replaced what wasn't on was immensely impressive.

I had a "Sutaki Pie", and still don't know what the ingredients were. The highlight of the meal however was a phenomenal baked avacado with garlic mayonaise, which was fantastic.

Back to the pub.A number of our party made efforts to sing, some of which were more tuneful than others. One of the grumpier members of staff referred to the pub as a "shithole" and the landlord as a "bastard" although she mellowed out as the evening wore on,to such an extent that she tried to persuade me to sing a Steps song, which of course was completely out of the question. Her excuse for not singing it herself was that she couldn't manage the high notes, a fair enough excuse since her voice sounded like an overfull concrete mixer at top speed.

Whoa!

PS - That line "Take Me Out Tonight" reminds me of an 80's song.......

I love the Smiths! I like that song 'How Soon is Now' especially... beautiful zoning out music. Ha ha ha.
