My kid had a school project, and needed an Oscar. A fish Oscar. Promised it would find a good home with another student. Promised it wouldn't come home again. Promised she wouldn't kill it.
Sucker that I am, I let her get it.
$500 later we now have an aquarium big enough for it and a friend. People telling me, "It's only an $8 fish, so what if it dies?"
You don't buy a living creature and treat it like it's "an $8 fish." Like it's refuse. Makes me mad, mad at my kid, mad at the stupid school project, mad at the mentality that life is to kill because it's cheap.
By that mentality, my kids, on whom I spend huge amounts of time and money, are worth lots more than the children we sponsor for $32 per month. We're more deserving of life, a good home, and care than someone living in a Philipine slum.
Freakin' fish. Now I gotta clean up and finance one more thing.
