When I was 17, I worked at Albertson's, a grocery store, in their pharmacy. I witnessed the glory of pharmacy, where the pharmacist was like the community doctor and she had a genuine relationship with her patients.

When I got into pharmacy school, Albertson's dissolved and I was offered an internship with one company in Gainesville: CVS. I took it, it was the best I had.

I stayed with CVS throughout school and signed on to be a pharmacist even before I started rotations.

I have been a full time pharmacist for them for 16 months. I've cried. I've laughed. I've met wonderful people. And I've felt like the company can give a shit about me. I feel like a number, not a person. I had a lifetime of being treated like a hamburger joint employee because of the drive thru (biggest mistake in the history of pharmacy for the profession) even though I have my doctorate. I could look forward to a lifetime of underpaid and mistreated technicians who dropped every few months. No hope of having Thanksgiving, Easter or sometimes even Christmas off.

Every person I commiserated with has turned in their name badge for a life where they don't feel abused. And I wanted to so bad, but I didn't want to do this in haste, without a plan, and to seem ungrateful.

And then I applied for a job at Publix, the best grocery store I've ever been to, in their pharmacy. And I got an interview last Wednesday and I was ecstatic. And I waited and waited and waited. And this morning, I got a call at 9:11 am. It was the Pharmacy Supervisor from Publix, offering me a full time position. Was I willing to be a leader? Willing to work at a company that has the most amazing benefits I have ever seen? Somewhere that was 5 minutes from home instead of 45 minutes? Do I want 7 paid holidays off a year and only work 12 hours max a day? Yes. YES. YES!

So, starting October 20th, my career will take off down a new path, one that I believe in. I've wanted to work for this company for so long and can't believe this opportunity came at this point in my life. I had a great store with CVS with wonderful coworkers, but I must give up something good for something great.

Looking forward to showing Publix what a dedicated employee who loves her job looks like!

Awesome news and great to hear that you will soon be working somewhere where you can really use your degree and make a difference in your patients' lives.
