A quote from Facebook in response to my statement that Spaniards are white.
"Not all Spaniards are white. Not all Spaniards speak Spanish.
Most people from Middle and South America speak Spanish or Portuguese. The color of their skin range from ivory to black. They are not Spaniards as they were not born in Spain.
I have noticed that the lighter the skin tone, the less discrimination people are subjected to, generally speaking."
The first line is technically correct I suppose. Some Spaniards are descended from the Moors and some Spaniards speak Catalan.
The rest of it just annoys me to no end. I've had this conversation with several Latinos I know and none of them seem to get that Spaniards are by definition people from Spain. Spain is not in the Americas. Therefore people from the Americas are by definition not Spaniards.
