ARRR!!! Veterans' Day - November 11th

Remember
Written by Father Denis Edward O'Brien, USMC

It was the Veteran, not the reporter,
who has given us the freedom of the press.

It was the Veteran, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It was the Veteran, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to fair trial.

It was the Veteran, not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to demonstrate.

It is the Veteran, who salutes the flag,
who served under the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
who allows the protestor to burn the flag.

To REMEMBER is to HONOR!
Veterans' Day, originally named Armistice Day, was created to memorialize the day the Allies and the Germans signed the Armistice to end the hostilities of World War I on November 11, 1918.

President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed:
To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations.
World War I was called " the War to end all wars, " and Armistice Day might still exist if the optimistic hope that followed it had not been extinguished just a few years later when war once again broke out in Europe leading to World War II.
In 1954, to honor all veterans, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a bill into law that changed the name of Armistice Day to Veteran's Day.
ARRR!!! Have a Great Veterans day and weekend!!!!!!!!!!!
