Say what you will about the man, but I am saddened by the death of Steve Irwin. People tell me that his persistent enthusiasm got annoying, but aren't we really jealous of of that happiness he possessed? In the day of over-worked TV spin-offs, greedy cookie cutter reality show contestants and fucking overblown media, we had a man with passion to entertain us. He wore his heart on his sleeve and cared none at all about who saw it. He made it his life work to protect Nature and her creatures and showed endless love for his family. Though I haven't watched an episode in quite a while, I was a fan. Not only of the way he treated and showed us animals, but of the way he interacted with the viewer. It was like watching a friend on TV. To quote his now immortal words, Come with me.
In a personal note: I leave for Seattle tomorrow. Goodbye Iowa.
