So today is a turning point. I had made a little Sculpey Figurine of my big fat dragon, Gordo.
I'll post a picture of the figurine once I can get the link cable for our camera from my wife 
Anyway, so while out on my route (I work for DHL) I presented my chubby little guy to a few of my family oriented customers and asked them all the same question: "Would you buy a children's book with this guy on the cover?"
Out of 7 people, 6 said they would. The seventh said she wouldn't because "he's ugly" and wouldn't take her criticism further. I know I should probably get a wider sampling, but I'm now positive that I've got a good thing here. So full speed ahead, me hearties! Gordo, The Chocolate Dragon is now in full production!
And I love Gordo! Adorable. Reminds me of my cats.
