I gotta keep this short tonight...I gotta get to bed early, just once

Today I went to my roommate's girlfriend's art exhibition at Mills College in Oakland. Turns out, one of her instructors is Ron Nagle, and she was shocked that I knew who he is.

And well she should be, because if you're not a complete fucking music geek like me, you probably don't know who he is either. He was in a totally amazing, unique band in the 60s called Mystery Trend, then put out a strange, hilarious, wild album in the 70s called Bad Rice that is considered a lost classic. He also composed the incidental music for "the Exorcist" and co-wrote "Don't Touch Me There," a hit for the Tubes. At the end of the decade, he teamed up with a gent named Scott Mathews to form the Durocs, put out one great record, then mostly retired to producing sessions for others, including John Hiatt.

See, I told you I was a fucking music geek.

At any rate, I was stoked to meet him, but he left before I could track him down. Oh well. Maybe next time.

Okay, Da Ali G Show is over, and I'm hitting the hay.

Update: so far, the Quinne vs. Isobel adorable-off is a stalemate, but hey, it's not about who wins or loses, right?
