Grrlhavoc's gone all grey frown Wonder if she's coming back...she was my first friend....
-------------------------------------------------------------------
So, this weekend, on the way up to the Giants game, my roommate and I where wondering...why are cars built to go so fast?

Think about it for a minute...shouldn't cars have some kind of limiter that keeps them from going over 75 MPH? I don't think you can legally drive any faster than that anywhere in the country. Why does ANYBODY (other than police and emergency vehicles) need to go faster than THAT?

I mean, consumer-type automobiles have to conform to all sorts of safety standards. Why not that? You even HAVE to wear a seat belt...a law that's there to save the driver from HIMSELF, while some dickhead, who can no longer tell real life from PlayStation, in his oversized Hot Wheel barrelling down the road at 110 mph is a danger to EVERYONE.

Okay, that sounded a little bit angry (guess who almost got hit this weekend wink There's some seriously bad drivers in this area). But really, it's not just about that guy. The faster you go, reaction time changes, adverse weather/road conditions become that much more perilous, forward motion is more difficult to change...more accidents.

Your thoughts....

prudence:
scaring you? why? haven't you ever seen King of Hearts?

it's one of the best movies, ever. i was reminded of it today.

Fast Cars is my favorite buzzcocks song...especially the peel sessions version? god, i love that bassline...

i'm one of those anti-goverment legislation libertarians, so i don't believe there should be a limit on how fast a car should be able to go, although i see your point that it doesn't seem necessary, given that we have speed 'limits' [although montana has roads where there are no speed limits]. think about it- would you really be happy with a car that could NEVER go over the speed limit? do you want the government telling us how fast we can drive our cars on private roads, even if you never do drive that fast. what if, say, a lunatic sniper drives up along side your car, pointing a gun at you...wouldn't you like to be able to drive a little faster, and have a CHANCE to get away?

i'm also kind of against seat-belt and helmet laws, in principle...the only reason i like them is b/c it forces people whom i care about and don't want to see die wear their seat belts and helmets, when they may not otherwise...

but, other than that...fast cars are kinda sexy love

oh, yeah-
giants suck. go A's!!! tongue
