Poems, uncollected ( May 2007 )

Untitled

White ribbed shirt two layers underneath,
hair: pigtailed curtains draping her face.
Tough armor; her bare shoulder broken
by a beige strap. Caps the color of freckled fists.

While she changes; see through my head
the simple equation of a parachute. My beard
measures her neck.

Nobody's Home

Her damp red hair; she shakes the rain while crashing...

Thermodynamics

First Law

She stood me up! her eyes disappear
at dusk. She had elegant gowns
no twentysomething could afford, but
when she wears those striped socks, I am a Roman
crafting his meagre verses boxed in
by the barbarians; some bloody saxon'll
wipe his carcass with my manuscript: germs
descending to burbles in the burp of a sparrow
from Portugal two millenia hence.

Second...

The Second Law of Thermodynamics

Spoiled myself on season finales, I remain
viscous and go home for a few days to say goodbye
again. Its wrong to call you from the coast;
you won't follow: we lose touch.
Sharing letters, postcards, and finally
myspace comments, I forget you occupied my space.
The image I have of you smoking outside Kinko's
is streaked with toner and...

New Poem, "The Sea of Ice"

Will you cry when criticized? What questions did you ask,
stupidly? Flustered, fearful I stutter "autistic"
but came out: "agnostic." Never was any good
at Oratory, if I address the Senate, I'd be stoned
in Rome performing in the forum for the quorum
a farce when we both know Octavian forbids levity.
If you ask the historians, they'll also...

Hey.

Your retype of "Her White Armor" is cool. I already commented on it, but I realized today after re-reading it that I want to print it out and start a pesonal collection of poems/prose/writings I like in a book.

Looking forward to reading more of your work.
