Stay in NYC or move to California Bay Area? What would do?

which part of the bay area? I am originally from Northern NJ but moved out to Huntington Beach CA in 2001, eventually ended up in the bay area around 2007 in Oakland. I know it has gotten pricy up there these days but has really cleaned up. I ended  up leaving Oakland for Portland in 2010 only to end up in Philly in 2015. with the pandemic i know California has a lot more rules on reopening everything and places in NYC, NJ and PHILLY . I'm not going to lie i met so many amazing people in Oakland that community is strong and people out there became family. I def miss them and have considered going back myself.
