Yesterday morning I had my job interview at the McGill Institute of Executive Studies, and by all accounts I think that it went well. The ladies were nice, and I answered their questions (for the most part) clearly and honestly; the "for the most part" corresponding to the clearly, not the honestly. I'm actually a fairly honest person, except when it comes to talking to strangers in shopping centres. Then I'm as dishonest as a married man at Mardi Gras. They liked my French, (who doesn't,really?) and they kept remarking on how calm I seemed. " You have such a calm presence," one lady said. I smiled serenely, and made a mental note that those aroma therapy candles had been worth the money. Not really. I project a fairly calm image to those people who don't know me, and sometimes even to those who do, it's just funny that in the middle of thinking a million jumbled up thoughts, I can push them to the side, and say, "Yes, I can multi-task." Actually, I guess that's proof that I can....
Sometimes I post the same entries on both my livejournal and SG. Other times I don't. It's a crapshoot, really.
People at the library (scrawny chicks on cell phones in particular) can be insane. Absolutely nucking futs. I'm not impressed. I'll give you a brief window into this madness...
As I may have mentioned, there is a giant NO CELLPHONES sign directly across from the Reserves Desk, right next to one of the main study areas. This also seems to be the preferred place for cell phone users to make conversation, loudly. So last night, in that very spot, a girl was talking on her cell phone, talking loudly and gesticulating wildly. E, who works nights with me, said, "Excuse me, but you can't use a cell phone right here."
The girl (and in this case I deliberately write girl as opposed to woman, because the little bitch looked like she was about 14, and experiencing real PMS for the very first time) turned to us with rage in her eyes and said, "WHATEVVVERR!!! I heard you guys talking like 5 minutes ago!"
Allow me for a moment to describe some of the tasks that a job at Redpath Reserves entails: Asking people what they want, telling them whether or not it's in, Asking for their ID cards, telling them when said item (s) is (are) due to be returned. As you can see, speaking to people is in the job description At times, it is also customary to make what is known in the Western world as "small talk." That is, How are you?, Is it still raining?, I like your earrings, Would you like to see a picture of my kitty?. This is also known as being polite.
So, you smarmy little skank, I, unlike you, am being paid to talk. You are in the way. I am not. Take that expensive cellphone that your rich parents bought for you, and shove it up your overly bony ass until you can no longer hear the infuriating, customed-programmed ringtones. Please and thank you.
Yours Sincerely,
Andra Elizabeth, M.A. candidate, McGill University

Everytime that I think about the rage on her face, I have to laugh. smile

Yesterday truly was a wonderful day, even with that incident, nay, because of that incident, it was so funny, it was icing on the cake. To show my gratitude, I'm going to make a list of 5 things that I'm grateful for. Seriously.
(In no particular order)
1) The small baby and the fat gray
2) The adorable new squab in my life
3) My loving family back in NY
4) The fact that I have been selected to immigrate to QC
5) The fact that my appartment is seriously 10 seconds from the bus AND the metro

I hope you all have a great day! kiss

Good luck on the job ;-)
