Yea, its a chance factor in a way. Sometimes you get lucky and have to be referred to someone who really knows what they are doing, and.. sometimes you dont.

More ethical questions..
Ok, if you approach someone and say something to them.. but then, as the convo has been progressing, noticed a marked negative change in them, would it be A) they simply took what you said wrongly, or B) your social skills suck ??
Cuz it happend to a friend of mine while we were at a pool hall. Ok so he was drunk, but he was explaining, to the best of intoxicated ability, hehe, to the others that hes sorry for his behavior but when certain ppl agitate him, he reacts promptly. Slurrs aside, he made sense. However, one of the persons he was chatting with before we all left happend to be the shift manager. Things went SNAFU pretty quick.
My friend proceeded out the door and made a final comment.. or so we thought. As he left, I turned and looked at the others, including the manager, and at that moment, the manager looked at me and stormed pass, yelling 'UH UH..what did you say?!?...' (and blah blah blah).
Ok, if youre thinking it may not be so clear cut, since the dude was drunk, how bout me. One day I approached some woman around my age, while I was "wanderin about" as I term it, and started talking. We chatted for a while, til she had to leave.
The convo was carried on a couple days later since I came to find out that she was actually in a relationship, but she wanted out. That encounter a few days prior wasnt me neccessarily looking for her to be my next gf. Actually, the convo was begun by her asking me about my shirt after I asked my question. That said, she still wanted to talk on the net or phone since shes in 'a tight spot', as she puts it. Details not needed atm.
Well, more days passed and random topics came up. But when I mentioned something I figure was innocent enough, like 'Oh yea, I know that place.. thats where we went last weekend', her tone changed and after a 'not-that-awkward' of a goodbye and all, it would end up being the last Ive seen of or spoke to her.
Also, I had asthma when I was younger, so naturally I dont smoke. My car and house smoke-free. and if you HAVE to smoke, either roll down the window, or go out on the porch. I have nothing against smokers, mind you. My best friends are smokers, including Amber, a dear friend who had fun dating me as well, but that once I moved to MD from IL, our lifestyles changed(MD-big city, Il-small town) and with it, the dating ended.
But earlier, while checking up on the Yahoo Personals, I suddenly noticed that the ones that I attract, and find myself attracted to, ARE smokers.
So, do I 'keep the faith' and refuse em because Im a strict non-smoker looking for non-smoker, or do I risk my lungs and give the smoker a shot? I love to give people chances, but if theres a chance I may come out 'worse' after than before, I tend to get cautious.
Amber would be a good and bad example. We were friends for a good while, and one friendly day with a bonfire and a lil beer, we were like 'lets try it, why not?'
