So i was reading my previous post and found that my review of the CD was wholly inadequate so i think that i will start over.
After ordering it i had been practically vibrating with anticipation and when i got home today and saw the happy little amazon box i forsook supper and a shower in order to get this into the cd player and listen to it.
The very first thing that struck me was the cover a wonderful scene of fog covered rolling hills and a single tree, done in gray scale, except for Liv Kristine in her beautiful, red, Nordic dress. A simple picture, yet so indicative of the CD as a whole, it almost says that they take their life directly from the land. I had heard a lot of good things about the cd and had tried very hard not to be excited, lest i ruined the experience, like i did with the new tool cd. Even so, i had very high expectations which were all exceeded.
The vocals were amazing, and meshed very well with the instruments, of which were included a violin and i think a good part of an orchestra. I almost felt how the vikings must have felt when they first set out, restless, adventurous, and a little fearful. On the other side, the tale is told from the side of the wives left behind, sorrowful, worried, but hopeful that their men will find what they are looking for.
It seems to me that in a lot of bands these days, the music and the vocals sit side by side and neither compliment each other nor hinder each other, very few bands are able to fuse them into one harmonious creation; it separates the good bands from the truly great.
Before i knew it, the CD was over, and starting again, it was everything that i had hoped for and more, i can only hope that this band brings the same level of talent and passion to their next releases, i for one, will be eagerly awaiting them. If you are a fan of female fronted bands, Gothic metal or just looking for a taste of something different, i recommend that you check out this CD, you will not be disappointed.
