Los Angeles - city of irony.

Not a day goes past when I'm not forcibly reminded that LA is the center of irony for the entire universe.

Example: In Barns&Noble, a street-person sleeping off his drunk in the SF isle --- the future suddenly looking bleek indeed.

Example: Walking down the street after Columbia flamed out, and noticing a trash container which is the property of "NASA Disposal and Recycling".

I love it.

If puns are the lowest form of humor, irony is the highest. It's marvelous to live in a city where irony runs as thick as blood.

Appologies for not updating in a while. I've only just managed to get a reliable net connection worked out, and my systems finally reassembled after their moving-trauma.

So what's new? My work is wonderful. I've never had a job I enjoyed like this one. I'm up early every morning and cycling to the office. Usually I'm in by 6:30, which means I get to leave at 5:00 or so - standard 10 hour day with a 30 minute lunch break.

The people I work with are amazing. It's incrediably cool to be surrounded by folks who've worked on everything from ET to Spiderman. Gawd I love my job.

Downsides? Dealing with Social Security - they rejected my application due to "illegible documents". Turns out that the dingwhoppers at the office haven't figured out that the red stamp on my I-94 doesn't show up on their xerox - doh! Anyway, I -might- have an SSN in a month or so. Funny thing is, even though you need an SSN for just about everything in the US, I've been able to live without for two months now. I got a condo, phone, power, gas (the type you need for a stove, not the type you get from bad mexican food and talentless directors). The only thing I couldn't get was fucking cable TV - the one bill that doesn't change, and that I'd have been happy to pre-pay comes from the one company that says "we won't deal with someone we can't get a basic US credit check for". Fortunately, the complex I live in got the subscription for me and just added the cost to my rent. Kewl!

Any deep thoughts?

Plenty, but right now I'm still getting settled in. I want to get a new drawing table so I can get back to illustrating in my spare time. I want to get some new bookshelves so I've got somewhere to put my recent DVD purchases. I want to get laid. The usual.

I'm going to try and get an illo of myself up sometime this weekend, and maybe a less rambling journal to go with it. Keep your fingers crossed.

Anyway, enough tapping for tonight. Hope you're all having a great time drinking, dancing and debauching tonight!

Sheesh, lucky you! A friend of mine just moved here from the UK and couldn't get squat without that SSN. It's pretty asinine.
