Hello People of SG.

I recently watched the documentary Inside Deep Throat. The documentary is incredibly insightful and it makes me realize how much times have changed in the last 38 years since it was made. The exploration of sexual attitudes, societal expectations and the entire history of adult film and how that has shaped the culture we live in.

I love porn and think that sexual expression, exploration and fulfillment are good parts of being a human being an deserve our respect , patience and understanding.

I specially like the commentary of Hugh Hefner and the interactions he had with feminist Susan Brownmiller. They had an exchange when discussing the anti-porn stance of Linda Lovelace the star of "Deep Throat".I like to take this moment to comment on their stance and how I think society is so much better for both types of people now.
In the interest of full disclosure I would like to say that I think Hugh Hefner is the man and has been part of American Culture for the better part of 50 years. The man is as American as apple pie. The magazine and the stance it took revolutionary stance in a myriad of social and cultural issues. Now for the difficult part.
Mr. Hugh Hefner's magazine Playboy does not allow the reader to get the full dimension of the women in it. While the magazine took head one several social issues and mores. It also reduce many of the women featured in the magazine to a simple set of stats. We do not know more then simple details that tell us nothing about the woman underneath the clothes. The women were reduced to be models and their artistic contribution was limited to their looks. This is a flaw since we do not get the full spectrum of the woman nude on the glossy pages.
Now as for Susan Brownmiller , I do not know her that well and I am not familiar with work. However I think the main argument that is that she makes it seem like men are completely at fault in the gender inequality we face. In some respects it even faults men for the hard wired instinct that we (men and some women) have to look at women. I will stop her before I get my foot deeper into my mouth.
I think both points hold some valid points , but they are incomplete. The world has changed so much since their exchange in the 80's. One Playboy has become one of the mildest forms of adult entertainment. Two I think gender equality has improved not as much as it should have , but headway has been made. Three the internet can into being.
The reason I bring this points up is cause The Suicide Girls site was born out of the better part of those two cultural forces. The sexual revolution and the feminist ideas , and so much more fun. The SGs are not just creative, inventive , ingenious, cool and super cute. They are people not just pretty things, they are human beings , from punk rockers, to cynical bloggers, from huge nerds to super cute and fit burlesque artist and all just cool.
