I lost a friend this week.

This friend never came over to my apartment. We never went to a movie together. This friend wasn't even human, but we did share tastes in gaming products, porn, magazines, and reasonably priced soft drinks in the downtown MInneapolis area.

Schinder's was always there for me on those days when I got off work and I needed to take my mind off of all the daily bullshit that is my job and, by extension, my life.

I'm very angry at the man who took a prosperous local media chain and essentially looted it to fulfill his need for self-destructive impulses. 91 years of service, 87 of which completely profitable, down the drain. They closed the doors monday and paid the employees their last hours' wages in cash.

Who will fill Schinder's niche in our society? Where else would you even want to buy First Ave tickets (aside from First Ave, whose lines are too long)? Where else could we go to buy porn without wearing a trenchcoat and a fedora to hide our identity (aside from Sex World, which is ridiculously overpriced)?

My heart goes out to all the employees that served me and the community well over the years. You were the SuicideGirls of comic book shops.
