This was my first political essay in an effort to get back into my once award-winning writing shape. I'm not saying I was ever that great of a writer, but I used to have a knack for telling the truth:

Bush being humble and apologetic

President George W. Bush spent Monday touring New Orleans and parts of Katrina ravaged Mississippi. The next day he surprisingly owned up to the mistakes made by the federal government. He actually said that he takes full responsibility for the tragedies of that filled the first four days and did something relatively new for this administration, apologized.
Bush has been under fire for his administrations handling of the cleanup in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. He hasnt taken this many hits since his college days as a cheerleader.
He denied that the lack of response during the early days was racially motivated. Snoop Dogg denies smoking weed and I dont believe him either. Kanye West was absolutely right and thankfully someone said it out loud. The elephant was crashing through the china shop and god bless him for sounding the alarm.
The fallout from this was the not so surprising resignation of Mike Brown. Brown quit as the director of FEMA. Hed been criticized for being woefully incompetent at his job. His resignation effectively took a political bullet for his friend Bush.
Brown didnt belong in the Bush administration anyway. His screw ups cost lives yet he was willing to take the blame for it.
Brown shouldnt be too concerned about his future though; this administration likes to reward ineptitude. Paul Wolfowitz helped in the bumbling of post war Iraq and wound up in charge of the World Bank. If he plays his cards right, he might just end up as a Supreme Court Justice nominee.
Still it is amazing that Bush is finally willing to take responsibility for a failure. Rumor has it that he might finally admit that he always wanted a son. This is the first time in his life the man has come close to admitting he might have been in the same room when mistakes were made. After all, this is the man who proudly lists his former ownership of the Texas Rangers as a success in his life.
Perhaps all of this has taught our President a much needed lesson in humility and personal responsibility. He said that he wasnt paying attention to reports from the media because he was busy working. Bush working might actually be the biggest surprise of them all.
