As requested by Sophie, here are a few pics from the hat show that my mom forced me to help out at.
the show is in support of the play "Crowns" which is running until the 27th of this month. My day was spent being hugged by little old ladies and told about how long they've known me or the family. A few lie to me and say that they remember hearing my father give sermons and how great and moving he was. I chalk up the small fib to their advanced ages or trying to be polite, because I've seen the footage and remember my father's sermons and they were atrociously boring. Reverand pop was a church administrator first and foremost, and probably would have never been ordained were it not for his lineage (four of his six brothers are pastors, his father and two uncles were pastors and his grandfather was a pastor). I think he hasn't pressured me into joining the family business because he was forced into it. I haven't told him that thanks to the Universal Life Church, the family can boast of four generations of ministers. We could boast that anyway since I have three cousins who are Baptist ministers, but tradition in the family has it that the youngest son in the family becomes a minister, (that incidentally makes me the youngest son, of a youngest son, of a youngest son) and I am the first not to join the biz(so far).
You will notice that there aren't any pictures of the ladies themselves. That's because an unwritten law of nature is that little old ladies don't like their pictures being taken, unless they have some control. That translates to being in their Sunday best. All of this is relevant if you are familiar with the play, which is about the traditional pillar of the black community, the church-going mother.
In other news my wireless router will be delivered Friday. I'm excited since I start my new job tonight. This will now give me the money to move out in June as planned. I still have to find some couches, a dining room set and a new mattress and am running out of time. I also want to look into podcasting when I get to the new place. It turns out that I have everything I need except that I have no clue how to make them into that feed thing or what RSS is.
On a completely random thought. What the hell is going on with the gas prices. It took $40 bucks to fill my tank. WTF?
Well that's pretty much it so far. Thanks to the Kentucky Derby and Mother's Day the show has gone very well so far.
