Rainy, dreary Saturday. Cats are in a mood to be cuddly though.

Was worried this week about not having a job come monday, because Yankee candle is shutting down the partucular building I'm in and we were all in the dark about whether there would be anything for us after that, but finally they sent some people around on friday to send us round to other buildings.

Yesterday I cracked every one up pretty good down at NETTTS. I did four successful blindside parallel parks in a row and I walked over to some other guys to ask if they wanted to use the truck to practice that maneuver. I was talking with them for a minute and I turned around and saw the truck rolling away and thought OH FUCK and went tearing off after it at maximum speed. But I saw that it appeared to be steering intself and then I saw the guy in the cabin. Well, everyone got a good laugh at that. Instructor told me that if I ever had a truck roll away on me just to let it roll and take the consequences afterward. I said if It was a truck I owned I would be going after it.

I had a go at writing a Star Trek novel back in the 90's but it got to several dozen pages and I realized I did not have a story to tell and left off. I also saw that the characters never said much of anything. I recall reading that INTPs tend not to be writers. I've also read that if an author does not like people his books will not sell. It seems to me that people like to read books that talk about human interactions because in doing so they learn more about how to be human beings. And as I don't interact with people all that much my journal doesn't have that much to teach anyone about how to be a human being, and for that reason people will not find it interesting. Although maybe it is of some interest to people who might be interested in seeing if a neurotic person can work through it.

Yesterday I was looking through a newspaper lying in the break room at work. I found that I had outgrown the editorial page; I found the opinions expressed therein to be about as sophisiticated as what you'd expect from high school kids playacting at being little democrats or republicans. One of the conservative columntists wrote a piece about how raising the minimum wage from $5.25 an hour to $7.25 an hour over the next couple of years would result in the loss of jobs. I used to think I was a Republican because I'm pro-gun, but I totally despise the horrible disingenuousness with which republicans insist that it is economically impossible to give a boost to the people at the bottom rung of the ladder. First of all it the people at the bottom had a little more money they would be puttting more money into the economy with their own spending and thereby boost the market for various consumer goods. They would also be less dependent on public assistance, helping the average taxpayer a bit, and so on and so forth. Also, people at this wage level are making such trivial amounts of money, that they struggle to live on, that it cannot be viewed as anything other than 100% disingenuous mean-spiritedness to begrudge them such a trivial increase for the sake of a very simplistic business model. If there is work to be done, employers can afford to have it done for $7 an hour, and the end consumer can afford a minor increase in the price of goods and services if such an increase proves ultimately to be necessary. But the republicans seem to be incapable of seeing the public good as having any other meaning than what's good for short-sighted and greedy business owners.

I really don't think very highly of too many groups of people. There's a country music song playing lately that goes "Have you forgotten. . . . " about september 11th and what it was like to go through that day. This song's meaning is to chastise people who are angry about the Iraq war. The song's critical failing is that if fails to take note of the non-connection of Iraq and 9/11. What I see going on in cultural forces of this nature is that the common people talk themselves into being currency to be spent by people in power to use to further their own ambitions, cloaking their ambitions in red white and blue so that the stupid stupid stupid masses will think themselves or others to be unpatiriotic if they question the actions of their leaders. So when I see a face on a newspaper of someone who's 2/3 my age or so that died over in Iraq, I see someone who in my mind was born and raised to be expended for just such a purpose. I'm different form a liberal In that I don't find any compassion in my heart for people who are not bright enough not to throw away their lives for the sake of the imbecility and ambitions of their leaders. I guess you could make a pretty good case for saying that I am not a good person because of that, but I'm sick of people and the checkerboard glasses they wear that only allow them to see the various things that their cultural backgrounds, conservative or liberal, allow them to see. I guess mostly I'm critiquing the rightists in this little rant but right now they're the ones in power and making the most spectacular mistakes.

I read in Roethke's journal that she has cut dates short becaue of people not believing in voting. I haven't voted in a while. I really don't "beleve" in any governmental systems. Democracy seems llike a good idea, but I look at what it's made up of in the real world. The conservative columnist who says you can't raise the minimum wage because it will eliminte jobs. Well, I don't believe in him and not in any of the people who beleive what he says. I don't beleve in the leftists who want to take my guns away. There are other reasons I don't believe in the left that I won't even talk about for fear of complete social ostracism. I don't beleve in the faces in the newspaper who marched over to Iraq to bet blown up by roadside bombs because Bush, whom I don't beleve in either, was dumb enough to let himself into thinking that there were WMD's to be found in Iraq. I don't believe in John Kerry because he voted to support the war because it seemed the right thing to do. There is no basis for believing in our leaders because even the current oppostion party does not have enough courage and/or information to make decisions aout the world that reflect its actual realities. Ultimately, because noone truly understands the world, there is noone who can be bellieved in, leaders or common people, and for that reason there is no reason to "beleive" in Democracy or any other governmental system, because no such system can successfully operate when the minds that comprise it do not understand the world to which that system is to be appled. If there were minds that understood the world, the minds that do not would have no way of identifying those minds, and those minds that truly understood things would be forced to fall back in appealing to the cultural sensibilities of the stupid stupid stupid electorate and. . . .since I don't understand the world either, to be fair, I should say that there's no reason to believe in me either.

Therefore, I shall now get going on this week's heap of dishes.
