Ugh. Long day at work today. Got in at 9, after an hour bus ride, and I just got home at 9, also after an hour bus ride. The reason I was so late coming home? Computers. Software. Hardware. It all completely and totally sucks.

I know it's easy to say "it sure was great in the old days". Nostalgia is powerful. But the old days were only 2 or 3 years ago, and it really was great. You didn't have to fight with the installer, the kernels would just plain work. It was almost like everything was actually tested, and fixed, before you even got it. Now, the only stable version of an OS (FreeBSD in this case) is considered legacy and unsupported, while the supported version can barely perform some basic functions.

I'm so very tired of working with computers. I know nothing else, so I'm stuck with them forever, or until I somehow manage to invent and market and/or produce some moderately popular item. And that's unlikely.

Ah well, off to go heat up the already-hot-'cause-I-wasn't-home-to-vent-it-out house making dinner.

rephrased:
The good old days really WERE two years ago. In the mortgage industry, that's when rates were low, everyone was refinancing, and all you had to do was pick up the phone and grab a $3000 commission. Those were the days. Now business is down, regulation is up, jobs are out, and the honeymoon is over. frown But at least my new job brings me one step closer to nonprofit!

Oh yeah. I dunno how I survived the "dot bomb", other than perhaps sheer dumb luck.

When you say closer to nonprofit, do you mean closer to a nonprofit job, or to being nonprofit personally? While they both have their appeals I do wonder which would be more rewarding.
