Lawyers definitely serve a purpose in some cases. But having to be told coffee is hot proves that Americans as a whole are far too litigious.
Upon arriving back in the states I was bemused by the announcement in the airport repeating ad nuseum every 15 seconds. "You are approaching the end of the escalator, please watch your step." As if any reasonable person using common sense couldn't see that for themselves. This is obviously an aftereffect of some case an airport was sued for and lost. And that's just another example of the stupidity I can't wait to get away from.
