i was originally not going to put the events in chronological order, but screw it, i have to make it cohesive somehow.
out of every band at endfest,
aqueduct, beyond the shadow of a doubt,
looked like they were having the most fun.
they started out their set with an r. kelly cover.
"ignition (remix)", to be exact.
they played the hits.
"hardcore days and softcore nights".
"the suggestion box".
and they ended with what i think was an eazy-e cover.
by far, my personal favorite of the day.
"damn, it feels good to be a gangsta."
aqueduct was the hipster's choice.
tegan and sara.
having seen them previously,
i knew what to expect.
they delivered, although with relatively less banter
than when they played at neumo's last month.
which is kind of a shame,
because they're hillarious.
they played a really strong set.
sara was signing autographs afterwards.
some guy took a pic with her,
and said, "it's for this thing called myspace".
laughs from everyone within an earshot.
mainly because we all have myspace.
the only piece of paper i had
in my messenger bag?
an envelope.
she signed my envelope,
and i told her,
"i just wanted to tell you that i'm madly in love with you."
she laughed.
probably because she's famous,
and hears that from boys perhaps everyday.
i took a pic with her.
didn't tell her it was for myspace.
although i will post it. *wink*
hot hot heat.
really small crowd.
shouldn't have been on the mainstage.
they would have gotten a better crowd
if they were on the "what's next stage".
lots of energy, though.
steve bays, the lead singer,
was holding his mic with one hand,
playing the keyboard with the other.
surprised they didn't play "bandages".
they probably did.
i more than likely missed it
when i was flirting with sara.
the bassist had the coolest jacket ever.
it was like a wwii vintage military jacket.
decent performance.
missed the lashes because of hot hot heat.
missed kaiser chiefs because of pretty girls make graves.
we stayed for two songs.
the band had an accordianist.
that was pretty damn cool.
i saw derek (the bassist) before the show,
but didn't speak to him.
pgmg, in my opinion,
sound better live
than they do on record.
social distortion.
not really into the band,
but checked them out anyway.
glad i did.
very strong set.
mike ness is also one of the nicest dudes ever.
you can tell he was glad
to be in seattle.
my personal favorite part of the set?
the cover of johnny cash's "ring of fire".
the bravery.
caught the last part of their set.
had no clue sam endicott played guitar.
i thought he just sang.
they were much better live than i expected.
very engergetic.
you can tell fugazi is their favorite band.
in their war of words with the killers,
i'd have to say that the bravery
is a better live band.
the killlers have the glam and the glitz,
but the bravery have them beat
when it comes to energy and stage presence.
interpol.
seen them live before.
but it was a private performance.
you can tell they live for the big crowds.
paul banks got a haircut.
good.
i like him better with short hair.
had on a nice outfit, too.
one good-looking man, that paul banks is.
carlos d. came out with a white tie.
white shirt.
trademark storm-trooper boots
and empty gun holsters.
sam and daniel
came out in suits, as usual.
started out with "next exit".
predictable, but still welcomed.
played "slow hands"
and then "narc".
i thought they were only going to play
tunes from antics,
until they played "say hello to the angels".
ran through their strongest tunes.
did a long pause between the chorus
and the second verse of "pda".
they didn't get the reaction they wanted
from the crowd.
we stood silent in anticipation
for the rest of the song.
good fucking set.
interpol = endfest's best band.
queens of the stone age.
josh, before he played a single note,
commanded the band to get as close as they want.
"i know they didn't pay to get this close,
but this is about having a good fucking time.
it's okay, security. let them through."
gained my utmost respect as a performer.
the crowd was rowdy.
moshpits every fucking where.
played "no one knows".
crowd goes apeshit.
played "little sister".
crowd went even more apeshit.
my friend amber wanted to leave
because the crowd was getting too rambunctious.
i agreed.
endfest was a success.
my $40 was well-spent.
the most fun i've had in a while.
the end.
