So so so so SO very sick of working in customer service.
This takes the cake.
I work 12:30 - 9 this week and from 5:30 to 9 my sole purpose is to provide technical support. It's really stressful, it's very involved and it takes a lot of on your feet up to the second decision making. And i am DAMN GOOD at it. But i've been really on edge with this job lately as it is.
So the open line rings and i answer it. I get a rude douchebag on the other end asking to speak to someone in the office. I inform them they are gone for the day but offer my assistance in any way possible. I not only get the tsk treatment but i'm called an idiot for answering their line. Excuse me? So i let them know that they called the open line, since after hours all phones are forwarded to the after hour support extensions, which would be me. They said our office hours are totally off the wall because it was only 4:30. When i explain to him that we are on the east coast and it is actually 7:30 he fucking freaks the fuck out and demands i patch him through to such and such's voicemail and that my superior will hear about this. So i patch him through, turn around and throw my stress ball as hard has i could across my big vacant empty part of the office. I can't fucking wait to hear what this asshole has to say.
I feel that people in customer service hate their jobs more than anything because of the nasty people they have to deal with. People calling for customer service always complain about the lack of it. Why the fuck do we have it? Your blender doesn't work? take it back and return it. sell it at a garage sale. don't fucking degrade the poor girl behind the counter. Your cable gets shut off because you wont pay the bill, so you call and scream at the first person on the phone. On the other end, i try to be super nice to people in customer relations positions because of how rough they have it on a daily basis but i have no patience for someone who does not even attempt to perform their job. I acknowledge that there are good and bad people on both ends of the the spectrum but CS is just notoriously known for being no good, as are the people who contact them so tell me society, what is the god damn bloody point?!

do I qualify to understand???
sigh I try to use what I call my Mary Poppins voice. Calm and understanding...and than I get off the phone or they are on mute and a whole string of curse words come outta my mouth. I am actually called the "queen of de escalating" at my job and yet, I think I am loosing weigh and not eating BECAUSE I am good at what I do!
Ya...customer service didnt even make MSNs top 10 list of hardest jobs...was probably written by someone who jsut got off the phone with "an idiot that didnt know what they were doing"!!
Thanks for the well wishes...with a job like ours I NEED it!!!
