I just realized to my great chagrin that ll my life i have been a scab. Every job I had was non union. From my first job at McDs to my current job all non union. Now I have always been pro union even if I do get annoyed when unions of the super paid and useless (athletes for example) ask for more money.
Now some people feel the same way about the writers guild strike. Being an aspiring writer I am extremely sympathetic to them.At work while shooting the breeze the topic of the strike. I heard people say that the writers make a ton of money as it is ( only when they can work), that the writers who are not working just suck ( not that there are plenty of other writers and reality shows to compete with). In the end I realized that most of my coworkers thought that the executives deserved to make more than the workers. They never called the writers workers. But that is what they do. They put words together to tell stories. Those words are then taken by other workers and put to the screen. Sure they are not in the same situation as other types of workers. Sure they get to work on laptops at starbucks, sure anybody can write ( yet so few really have the talent required to finish a bad script...) And while my coworkers were ragging n the strikers I realized that they were justifying why they should be paid less. They were justifying why their labor was worth less. They showed their true colors. They were under the influence of false consciousness. They could unionize but they wont.because they want to be a boss and exploit someone some day.
I hate this. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe I am too passionate. Maybe growing up in socialist France has corrupted my mind. Maybe I am right. Maybe I have been scabbing because America is a scab nation. I love the USA but I feel that this country as been hijacked by groups who hate the people. Americans are kept under educated and fed a diet of bullshit. Then again I felt dumb when the new hot girl was talking about American Idol or some other reality shit show and all I knew was that they suck and suck your soul.
