i hate when friend's become my boss.
twice now it has ruined a good friendship.

case one:
i was 18, i worked at hot topic. i told my best friend chad about the store opening here, and where to apply, and he also got the job. he kissed ass, i did what was required and nothing more. he was eventually promoted.

he went from a cool guy to being completely involved in his job. buying everything he could from that wretched place. he also became a dick, in and outside of work. became cocky arrogant, and just an all around asshole. i suppose he's still my friend, because he's not an enemy. but i have not hung out with him since around march. and he only lives a few blocks away.

case two:
my friend will, who also worked at hot topic with me, and that i've know for most of my life. he told me about an opening at the place i work now. lately i've grown to loathe my current job. and my friends is VERY well aware of this. up until last week, he also talked about his similar hatred. but last week they offered him a higher position. so he took it.

i made sure last week that things wouldn't be different. and he assured me they wouldn't. i asked "are you gonna be mad if i don't work overtime?" and he said "no, but i will if you stand around and talk like right now." i figured that was acceptable since he was now my boss. and i was standing around talking.

today rolls around and the wherehouse is super busy. like it is much of the time nowadays. (one of the reasons i'm hating my job so much. at around 4 or 4:30 will asks if i can stay overtime tonight. i say "i don't know man, you know how i feel about working overtime" he says "yeah, well i figured you might like some extra money on your paycheck." i tell him "i don't really need the extra money."
and he says "fine. be a dick about it"

this wouldn't have pissed me off except for 2 things. i made sure if he became my boss that it wouldn't be an issue if i didn't work overtime. AND he used to leave right on time every day too, regardless of whether everyone else was done. and now i'm being an ass because i decide to stick to what i've been doing.

you know, i might consider working an hour more every day if i got 3 dollars more, like him. but to me, its still not worth it to work any harder for my shitty pay.just to have an extra 20-30 dollars on my paycheck. (just to clear things up, this is not jealousy speaking. because i made it clear that i didn't want the position when it became available)
