Lock it with more than one lock, thjat's the best adice I can give if you are attached to your bike. Or have something that looks so crappy/ugly that no one would ever want to steal it..and then you can probably get away with just a chain and padlock.
I have had a couple of bikes stolen though, even crap ones. The last time, I went hitch hiking for a week and while I was away, someone cut the chain and took it off my porch
I have a junky looking road bike now that no one will ever steal...really ugly, mismatched wierd colours and tape all over it and stuff...and a good mountain bike that I am afraid to ride much cause i dont ever wnat to leave it out of my sight.

So complete mayhem enveloped the downtown area yesterday. Luckily I was down there earlier and left about an hour before it all went down...It's been the one thing on everyone's minds today, alot of people are pretty shaken up by it. I was napping... 
maybe he din't ask for this situation...but giving out your money all the time you'll end up like him.
