Somehow, without my noticing, much of the hair that used to be on my head can now be found on my face.
(Not in the "going bald" sense: just that I cut my hair a bit shorter and then grew a beard a month later. If I do say so myself, it's a good deal more fetching than Voltaire's pointblank diagnosis makes it sound.)

You know, that journal entry I just wrote was lame, so I'm replacing it right away with this.
My Mom and The Chinese
Cool band name or not? I say cool; my girlfriend says not.
Addendum:
"Are you going to the 17 Katies show tomorrow? It's totally going to rock."
"I don't know, I've seen them before and their last CD kind of sucked."
"Dude,...

Damn school keeping me from really enjoying the internet!
I've signed up for a management training course--how professionally developmental of me. Why did I do this? Wasn't the plan to get a cushy government job in communications and bid retail a fond farewell? Yes, it was the plan, and to some extent it still is. But let's be realistic: I've never worked for the government before. I know nothing about working for the government,...

Not a lot of time to spend right now. I want to get in a good hour on this stupid story I've had on the go for a while now. I've got a title and a beginning, and a cast of characters, but they don't seem to be going anywhere, and I want them to get to something that would make the title make some...

Alot of people don't peg me as a bondage chick but I kinda have to be... I do escape artistry.... It's really cool....I can get out of alot of positions... I'm also really into the fetish culture... It can be alot of fun....
Tomorrow's my brother's birthday. He'll be 23. There's not much I can tell you about him: I know him well, we're close, but most of what I know can't be spoken. We're in many ways very similar, and in just as many we're total opposites: our mom's endlessly amused by how similar these two completely different children of hers can be.

as for the seafood..well, I tried. it wasn't very pretty, but I'm still alive to tell the tale.
hmm...siblings. I tended (still tend?) to be the quiet, sarcastic, 'brilliant' lit-geek girl. my younger sister was the semi-rebellious vegan activist one - she currently is off on another of her random trips somewhere. South Africa was the last adventure, and before that, Russia and Siberia. Yes, I'm a bit jealous.

Dear Boss,
Remember how you gave me all that time off the week of New Year's, and said you'd punch me in for a dummy shift just so I'd be paid for a full week's work? Well, that was really cool of you--unnecessary, mind you, as I would never expect in this industry of retail to be given time off without using vacation days, let...

Like Uncognitive says: I have a real job and insurance. I also live in an apartment that is far nicer (read: has very high ceilings, is old) than any of my friends, such that they come over and say "Hey, you've got a really nice apartment" once, and never come over again because they hate reminding themselves of how paltry their hovel is in comparison to mine. I think of as payback for when I lived in a railroad apartment above a drug dealer and everybody always wanted to come over and hang out.
Maybe you should alternate copies of the Communist Manifesto, Kapital, and, I don't know, maybe some Locke in your window displays. Would your boss think that's coming across too strong?

I've always had an interesting relationship with the idea of "selling out". I've been a part of bands I didn't believe in because I wanted to be onstage. I've sat around in a band meeting figuring out what style of music we should write more of based not on where our influences were leading us, but on what our audience was responding to. I have day job where I apply my talents to create the art that the company wants me to make.
Granted, I'm very lucky that I work for a wonderful company that affords me a great deal of creative freedom. But at the end of the day, I know that no amount of me loving something I've done will override the brass not digging it. And I'm totally at peace with that.
A lot of my friends have thrown the term 'sellout' around, aghast at the fact that I can so easily make that peace, particularly given some of the restrictions on your creative output when you're playing in the big leagues.
I see their point, but I consider myself a success, and not a sellout. Both success and selling out, I believe, only exist in any meaningful way between you and your art. (And you can extrapolate outwards into the more traditional commercial avenues.)
I admit - I'm a shameless capitalist who wants to be very rich
But I don't think I've made any compromises I don't believe in.

No comments for 5 days: that's gotta be a record. Nobody's fault but mine, I suppose. I was going to update this several times this weekend, but every time I stopped myself and decided to save the words and effort for other things. There are just so many hours I can spend in this chair, you know.

canada is big. like, high-point-John-Goodman-big. and in actuality, i would have had no goddamned idea where in canad-ia you were, since your profile is mysterious and vague in its pinpointery. can you tell i've been rereading a lot of Wodehouse recently?
i hereby accept your offer, and make a counter-offer to train it up to trekkerville sometime in the future when i'm less bounded by the boyfriend's parents as chauffeurs.

I really adore the twenties and thirties, but really the tweties.... I even have some vintage clothing from that era, but most of my vintage stuff is from the fifties.... when I cut my dreads off I want to be able to style my hair like mae west.......
Wednesday, huh? Poetry again. This time it's Ken Babstock, another Canadian. This one's from his first book, Mean. The last lines have become a mantra I mutter under my breath when work tests my patience.

I'm just amazed that fruitcake manages to combine two concepts that are quite delicious on their own (cake and fruit) and wind up with an end product that's never delicious, ever.

Of all that I was given this christmas, I may be most excited about the designer dress shirt with french cuffs (ie. cufflinks required). Sure I'll enjoy Citizen Kane many times, and I'll acquire some long-desired music with my HMV giftcards, and of course the couch my mom bought me last month will bring a lifetime of joy, but the gift that gives me the...

Everybody was confused this year because I converted to Judaism & didn't know what to wish me. FYI, Happy Hanukah is fine, and I still celebrated the true meaning of Christmas - presents, dude! This was Mr.'s first Christmas ever - he liked the presents part too.

Yo ladies, oh how I like to hump thee.
And all the bards in the top ten--please allow me to bump thee.
