Guess I should update....

Sometimes I think the best thing that could possibly happen to me would be for me to get fired from my job. Quite honestly it's the only thing keeping me in this town right now. I want to at least finish out a year with the company. Make it look good on a resume and shit ya' know. Not that if a golden opportunity falls in my lap between now and then I won't take it. Cause I most definitely will. I just won't start actively searching until September or October when it will officially be a year from when I started.

The thing is it would be damn near impossible for me to get fired from this job. Even if I was trying.

Seriously, try to think of the worst thing you could do to get fired on purpose and still go on to another job. At Prodigy, not only does it happen all the time, but in some cases is highly encouraged.

I mean I'm surprised I lasted beyond my first week. First gig I drop a stage monitor and shift a magnet. $500 blown in half a days work. Didn't even get docked for it. 2 days later I split my head open on a steel beam. Blood all over the bathroom 11 stitches. (there are still stains on the floor where I hit) Caught the flu the next day and threw-up all over the place. the next week I drank more than I intended to one night and not only showed up 2 hours late, but was hungover all day.

And that was just my first week on the job.

How about be rude to customers and stuff? It's not uncommon to have my boss tell me, "He's an idiot... fuck 'em. Tell him to get the fuck out." Securing the sale be damned.

As far as being late to work goes - everybody pretty much shows up when they want to if they decide to show up on certain days.

Working under the influence - At 4:20 it's pretty much expected that certain people will have "run around the corner". Talk about being hungover.... there's a liquor cabinet stock by a distributor IN THE FUCKIN' STORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On certain gigs... it's highly encouraged that we get fucked up before the show"

Now granted I don't take thse things for granted. I usually show up on time unless I get caught up doing something else. I only drink at work when it's a group activity. I've never gotten high on the clock. (Even that time my boss told meI should go smoke a bowl "to calm me down") and I usually only cop an attitude with customers who deserve it. (they love it when I do that... lol)

Anytime I want time off, I just have to say so (Ummmm..... if there's nothing going on I'm not coming in tommorow... or, well, I'm going home now.. see you tommorow) I get payed pretty decently, and I actually get quite a bit of respect for being the lowest on the totem pole as far as seniority goes.

So given that, why would I wanna lose this job? I mean it's a great stepping stone for my career aspirations, and if it's what I wanted I could see myself moving up quite a bit. If only it wasn't in Toledo.

What do you guys think?
