I NEED TO GET A TATOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This has absolutely nothing to do with me wanting to get one, but it is imperative that I permanently modify my body in some way.
(I know everyone is dying to know how the show went however, I gotta do this first.)
I have been feeling extremely liberated over the past few days. I'm sure this has something to do with the last confrontation I had with my mother's side of the family, and to prove that they no longer have any authority over me whatsoever I gotta get some ink, I gotta grow back out the hair they made me get cut, and I gotta start doin a lot of things I refrained from doing because of what they might think if they were to find out. (yeah, I been 18 for a long time, but you know how it is.) In fact not only do I have to do these things but I have to rub it in their faces.
If you've read "Survivor" by Chucky P. then you can relate. It's like the whole you're not free until your fuckin' thing except I'm technically not a virgin anymore, so I gotta do some other shit. Or maybe I should just start trying to get laid more often, whatever. I'm open to other suggestions on ways to rebel.
So I'm giving myself 10 days (my birthday is on the 14th) to decide what I'm gonna get. More on that next entry.
Now to talk about the show.
Overall I'm satisfied. The turnout wasn't fabulous, but it wasn't horrible either. Sucks because (in typical Toledo fashion) more than a few people that showed up decided to leave before the really good performances happened. If I'm disappointed at all, it's because people who I personally know that said they would come out didn't show. I mean I make it a point to at least show my face when my friends are dong stuff, even if I don't stay, but you know gotta differentiate between associates and friends. (Like the ones who decided to go hang out at the clubs downtown tonight instead, and said it sucked, but call me at 3:00am while I'm loading out because she needs me to come change the tire she screwed up because her drunk ass hit a curb.... I did it, and I didn't mention her loyalty and I even screwed up my car in the process, just because that's the kind of guy I am. But I won't say anything else about that.)
Drone not only satisfied their hardcore fans, but gained quite a few new ones. Nick (one of the guitarists) was gettin straight Thurston Moore with it on the feedback. And they ended the set by going out straight up Who/Nirvana style and smashin' up their own shit. (Solomon the lead singer drove the neck of his guitar straight through the cone of his amp.) Hell yeah.
Unfortunately I only saw the aftermath of this due to the fact that I had to deal with some other bullshit going on at the time. (I really don't want to have to resort to patting kids down at the door.) But my friend videotaped the whole set so I'll get to check it out a little later on.
The first two or three songs of their set didn't get recorded properly because both my sound guy and stage hand disappeared in between sets and I couldn't find them, resulting in the band standing around on stage for 15 minutes before I finally told them to just go ahead if they wanted to. (I guess that's what happens when you pay people up front.) Also because of this the bass amp didn't get any input through the board so who knows what the recording will sound like.
But Drone rocked nonetheless and I think they impressed Legbone enough to do some more shows with them out on the road.
I don't even have to talk about Legbone, because they always turn the place out. (For those who stuck around) They got the best pit action going, and had the most people singing along to their shit. I dig these guys more every time I see them.
They gave me quite a few compliments on the organization of the show and said they wouldn't mind playing more for me. They liked the venue and I think I've got a pretty good relationship going on with them. Let's see if they tell PunkNiteMike the same things they said to me when I'm not there.
The other two bands did decent jobs also and both left pretty happy. (well Last in Line had some internal issues and may not play again, however they gave me much love and were very grateful for what I did on my end.)
We just broke even on the guitar raffle (even though those profits weren't gonna go in my pocket anyway), which I thought was odd because it turns out the list price for the ax was closer to $500. Which makes for a nice profit margin when we sell it in the shop. But we raffled it off anyway because we did cover the dealer cost. (minus about 53 cents and shipping) Kids weren't as excited about giveaways as I thought. (They gladly took free shit, but didn't even want to walk up to the stage to get it???? wtf)
Everyone did say that it was one of the better run and more organized shows they had been to (bands included). And I got quite a few compliments from audience members. This was nice to hear because personally I felt there were a couple of things that could have been done better, but I can only do so much myself, and the whole thing was put together from concept to final show within the time frame of about three weeks. (During which time I had a lot of other shit going on and "oh yeah" I almost died from the flu or whatever.)
There were a couple of issues I had with the venue (I have to clean the place before I go in? and I have to provide TP for the bathrooms??? wtf), but that came out of his percentage of the door.
So it is confirmed what I thought all along, TOLEDO REALLY DOES SUCK. But I'm not discouraged because things do tend to get better and it was only the first show. So I figure if I get good word of mouth it can only get better. I was only expecting so much going into it anyway so I am definitely not disappointed at all.
It's funny because one of my friends that actually was there says I'm going through a lot for a bunch of kids that don't appreciate what I'm trying to do. But the next time I hear somebody say there's nothing to do in Toledo, I'll use this as an example of why there isn't. Because when anyone tries to make something happen, nobody gives them any support and you don't appreciate it.
So I'll do a couple more and see if it grows, but I got plenty of options to take this concept elsewhere. It's all part of a masterplan to get the fuck out of this God-forsaken city in a maximum of another year and a half. But more on that later.
That's more than enough out of me for now. Plus I gotta go get my car in the morning somehow and take care of a few other things. Until next time I guess.
