How many times in your lifetime does somebody else's survival depend on your decision-making? How many times do you think you would regret making the wrong decision?

Last night a patient of mine died because I chose to divert to the nearest hospital when he went into full arrest, instead of continuing on to our primary destination. The Doctor at the hospital we diverted to did nothing for the patient but cease CPR and stare at the electrical activity on the monitor, while watching a viable patient who had only been in arrest for less than 5 minutes die. Then she justufied her actions by telling the patients hysterical son that the MORE CPR is performed, the LESS of a chance the patient has of survival. WTF!?!?!??????? It was all I could do to restrain myself from knocking her out and taking back control of my patient. Instead I went to my truck and screamed and cursed and threw shit while I was cleaning up. My much more controlled and balanced partner however, proceeded to lecture the fine doctor on the finer points of ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), and the benefits of CPR. mad

On another subject, since when do parents of 13 year old kids who live in the projects say "My son couldn't possibly be doing drugs. He's only 13!" confused While he lay there wretching and convulsing (but breathing again) from the instant narcotic withdrawl symptoms I threw him into with 4mg of Narcan. eeek

I hope tomorrow is a better day. wink

That's rough man. You can't blame yourself, cuz it was totally out of your hands. You did your part. That's a tough job. I totally respect that.
As far as loaning CDs go, I learned my lesson a long time ago. I either misplaced it, or someone stole it. Probably misplaced it. I'm old. Good luck w/work!
