I now present: a couple of jokes about tonight's debate, a small rant, and why being raped costs $1200.

I watched the vice-presidential debate tonight. About 5 minutes in, I was so sick of hearing Sarah Palin use phrases like "darn it" and "heck of a." With her accent, I thought I was watching the movie "Fargo." I was actually begging for someone to come out and put her in a wood-chipper. I was also so sick of hearing her use the word "maverick" that I became convinced that Mark Cuban was getting royalties every time she said it.

Now the quick rant:

Part 1: There was more of the "you voted for the war" rhetoric from Hockey Mom. Joe Biden touched on something tonight that I've been thinking for years. In fact, he's the first person Democrat or otherwise, who I've heard actually made this point. (and then Sarah Palin just glossed over it.) Let me spell it out here for everyone: THERE WAS NEVER A CONGRESSIONAL VOTE ON WHETHER WE SHOULD GO TO WAR IN IRAQ. Never. Let me say that again. NEVER. The vote that actually took place was on whether or not to give the president the power to go to war, if need be. They voted to give Bush that power. This was after the Bush administration argued that the president needed that power in his negotiations/sanctions etc. It was so Bush could say, "hey, assholes in Iraq, I've got the power to go to war right now. So maybe we better talk about this shit that's going down." There were a lot of people who voted to give him that power who thought that going to war with Iraq was wrong. A lot of them didn't realize at the time how bat-shit crazy Bush and Cheney were. And that "diplomatic talks" would end up being about a week of Bush asking for Iraq to turn over WMD's that they didn't have. So, once again, nobody voted to go to war. They just gave Bush the power to do so if all else failed.

Part 2: I was also sick of hearing Sarah Palin say the words "hockey," "soccer," and "mom." I don't want a soccer mom running the country. Soccer moms can barely get their kids to the game on time. And that's with them running people off the road with their big SUV's. Watch those assholes on the tv show "Friday Night Lights" and tell me you want one of them running the country. Hockey and soccer are games and diversions. Entertainment. Nothing to do with running the fucking country. You know what my past-times include? Uh, listening to music, drinking, writing, watching "The Shield," eating pizza and scratching my balls. Do any of them qualify me to run the country? Of course not. (Although I do read a lot, and that's something some of our elected leaders and candidates don't do...)

Plus, I would be excited to have a woman in the oval office. But I don't want her to be just any woman. Hillary would have been good. She's smart. It's like what Chris Rock has said recently concerning whether white people will support a black man running for President. He said that Obama is running, not Flava Flav. Every time I see Sarah Palin, I picture a big clock around her neck. So she knows what time to get to the soccer game...

Ok, now it's time for the $1200 RAPE!!! Excited?

When Sarah Palin was mayor of the Alaskan town Wasilla, she had a policy of making rape victims pay for the rape kit used in the police investigation. A kit that cost up to $1200 (and you think medical costs are not out of control.) So let me get this straight, a woman gets raped, goes to the hospital/police, and has to pay $1200 for her trouble. This is so fucking stupid. It's hard enough to convince women to report rapes, what with the perceived stigma and such, but to make a rape victim actually think, "hey, I've been raped. Should I report this? I don't have $1200..." That should not even be a consideration. At all.

Bonnie Erbe, blogger for the U.S. News & World Report, wrote:

"Palin supporters ought to be taking a much closer look at her record on these types of issues (charging rape victims for evidentiary examinations so their attackers can be brought to trial) than whether she can juggle five children and the vice presidency. This, more than anything, should push women, pro-life and pro-choice, away from the McCain-Palin ticket. It's one thing to oppose abortion on moral grounds. It's quite another to charge crime victims for their own forensic examinations. Such a policy is nothing short of outrageous."

It is outrageous. What if during tonight's debate, Joe Biden had walked over to Sarah Palin, pulled down his pants, fucked her while she screamed "oh, heck," threw $1200 at her feet and said, "here, sweetheart...this one's on me..."

Sarah Palin represents women's rights about as much as R. Kelly.
