I would like to thank the Academy assholes...

for not giving Holly Hunter the Emmy for Lead Actress in a Drama! Sure, Glen Close is a fine actress, but c'mon! My baby got ripped off! Fuckers.

Ok, here are a few thoughts on tonight's Emmy Awards:

THE GOOD: Don Rickles. He was the funniest guy on the show. And that's saying something when you had presenters like Ricky Gervais, Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, Conan O'Brian and Steve Martin. Don is still the master.

"30 Rock" won nearly every category it was in, including best lead in a comedy awards for Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin. And it won best comedy show.

Zeljko Ivanek (yeah, I know. You don't know who he is...) won for best supporting actor in a drama for his role on "Damages." This guy was off-the-charts good on that show. Nice to see him win. (and too bad he won't be around for the second season. Ooops. Sorry if you haven't seen the first season yet.)

Mary Tyler Moore and Betty White were presenters. I'm very fond of "The Mary Tyler Show."

Since "Damages" was winning a lot of awards, I expected that it might slip in there and win Best Drama. I was pleasantly surprised when the excellent AMC series "Mad Men" took that award.

Barry Sonnenfeld won the Directing For A Comedy Series award for "Pushing Daisies," one of the quirkiest and sweetest shows on tv. I heart that show. (Fuck. Sorry. A 14 year old took over the blog for a few sentences there...I'll try to ramp up security...)

Colbert and Stewart both won. And that's good and well-deserved. Although I was kinda pulling a little for David Letterman.

THE BAD: Well, we've already talked about Holly Hunter not winning. But it gets worse.

Josh Groban sang a medley of TV show themes. Wow. Plus, wow.

Jean Smart won for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy. Jean Smart is a good actress, but she's not that funny. They just gave it to her cause she's Jean Smart. Who else was in that category? Uh...Kristen Chenoweth, the hottest Christian ever. Amy Poehler from Saturday Night Live. See, already this is a travesty. Seriously, who is funnier: Jean Smart or Amy Poehler? Duh. Then there was Holland Taylor from "Two And A Half Men." Ok, Jean Smart is funnier than her or that show. I'll give them that one. Vanessa Williams for "Ugly Betty." Ok, Jean Smart has her beat, too. But Amy Fuckin' Poehler? Please.

Jeremy Piven won again for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. And then he got on stage and proceeded to be the opposite of funny. Sure, he's great on "Entourage." But he's really not a funny guy. He's just been giving a great role and he ran with it. And he's great doing it. But really. Two guys that should have won that award: Kevin Dillon from the same show. Piven's character is a little more flashy, but Kevin Dillon is week-to-week the funniest guy on "Entourage." And then there's some guy named Rainn Wilson who is on some show called "The Office."

Worst Hosts Ever. Game show and reality program guys hosting the show? Sad. And not entertaining. To properly host an awards show, you either need to have some star power and dignity or you have to be funny. Johnny Carson had both. These guys had neither.
