I like it when the person on stage drinks more than me...

Saw Doug Stanhope for the first time at Comedy TN this week. Let me just say that the guy is really fuckin' funny. The opening act was some girl named Mary something, who we're told won the "Funniest Person In Memphis" contest. On one hand, I can believe that. On another, she's not that funny. And on top of that, she spent a good deal of her routine talking about her twat. And how to shave it. And what sounds other people's twats make. All of that would have been ok (I guess...) if she had actually been funny.

Stanhope was a riot, though. He had me at hello.

It was also my first time at the new Comedy TN. Once you got in the showroom, the waitresses were cool and very attentive. But you can skip the "Creole Cafe." That's their "restaurant" where you can get food and drinks before the show. That's assuming the self-proclaimed "over-worked," cranky, non-attentive bartender chick takes your order. And it's not really a "cafe." It's a small bar waiting area. Eat before you go if you want to eat. Ever again.

Actually, since we couldn't seem to get any food (or drinks) before the show, we hopped across the street to the Bel-Air. It's on Macon Road. You should go there at least once in your life. It's kinda like a small-town bar. Good mix of young and old (really old) people. Lame cover band. The cover band this night was called "Loose Change." Man, doesn't that sound like some band you would see in the bar of a Holiday Inn in Jackson, TN? But it's somehow entertaining because the people there are into the band! And it's fun to see who can be the first to guess what song they are playing. This seems like a negative review of the place, but it's actually not. Trust me; I used to hang out in Sweet's 4-Wheel Drive Lounge. You won't see the best show in your life, but you will be entertained. And you'll meet some nice people. It's a fun little place. And you can take your parents there.
