so here we are in day 2 of the great blizzard of aught-3 . . .luckily tues and wed are my days off, so i haven't had to try to drive or go anywhere, but last night a/b 5 pm the power went out - which means the heat went out. big fat bummer. so we put on all our clothes and ate some baked beans and lit all the candles and watched a dvd - princess mononoke (we have a portable dvd player that runs on batteries for a/b 3 hours - thank god it had been plugged in and charging!) the power company says they'll try to get the power back on w/in 24 hours - - how comforting! so this am my hubbie had to go to work b/c he has a proposal due friday, and since there is no power or heat at the house i made today "take your wife to work day" - and the dog. so , we've gotten a/b 2 1/2 feet of snow and it's still coming down. my car is completely buried, you can't even tell there's a car there. a plow has not yet been down our street or any street near us. so we put on all our snow gear and walked to his office walking down the middle of the street where some brave people w/ big ass trucks have driven. if you can get into the tracks you're ok, but if you have to turn you're screwed and we saw many people stuck doing that. on the way to the office we saw many broken tree limbs and one tree that fell on a parked car - yikes! several business' roofs have caved in and the canopy over the main terminal at the airport collapsed and so they had to evacuate the airport. the main highway through this area - I70 - is closed. just a/b everything is shut down. i called work to see how they were doing, if they had power, etc. only 3 techs made it to work and 2 doctors (one who lives right across the street) - on a day where there are typically 15 techs and 8 doctors. i'm debating how hard i'm going to try to get to work tomorrow. i mean, we're an emergency hospital, so even if no one is keeping their appointments we have hospitalized patients that need our care, and we have to be able to see emergencies, but i don't know if it's worth risking my life to get there. i live a/b 15 miles from work, and i'm sure if i could get onto the highway i'd be fine, but trying to get to the highway i could easily get stuck and then i'm just, well, stuck. i guess i'll just watch the skies and hope it stops snowing soon. plus, friday is the day we hit the road for vegas. i am assuming the highway will be open by then. but you know what they say a/b assuming - it makes an ass our of "u" and "me".
well, as long as i have access to a computer i'm going to email friends and family and let them know we're still alive in our snow cave.
think warm thoughts!
toodles.
