I went to this aztec / mayan purification ritual thing today. It was something totally new for me. We did some breathing exercises. Then they cleaned us with incense and we entered to the Temazcal. It's a little room with hot stones in the center, where they sprinkle some herbal water and everything fills with steam. It's like a sauna. The point of the ritual it's something they call the mystic death. You enter the Temazcal that symbolizes the womb of the mother earth, and after you get purified by the steam, you are reborn.
It was very interesting. The only part that I didn't like was the bucket of cold water that they throw on you after the steam ritual. It feels horrible.
Anyways, I really felt renewed. I'll do it again.
