beneath a guise of me

Isolation from other people is one thing everyone can agree on being afraid of, down to the root of their being. Granted many people will argue this point based on their own varying degree of this fear, the fear is based on a lack of knowledge and understanding and the things this causes them to do. Submerging a fear into a sense of identification with a group whether it's a religion, politik, ethnicity, the motivation is the same behind them all. All of them motivated to break down a defensive barrier of alienation one feels when alone.
Fear of death drives people to do strange things. Designed as they may or may not have intended, these varying identities create a great amount of opportunities to be manipulated. Something many people would be suprised to realize about their Sunday church gatherings and maybe not so much in regard to their help downtown with the local mayor's candidate. All of the thinly-veiled promises for meaning and purpose in your life aside, leaders are nothing more than people simply trying to assuage their own fears by creating a rubric of identity for people that the greatest number of souls--even with their differing feelings in regard to everything except their disconnection and loneliness, can fit in together.
Where does this leave the person who truly wants to be an individual whom answers to no one? Confused and obtuse.
