Newton's first law of motion states that "An object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force."
A friend at lunch today proposed that happiness is always temporary, that it is not a normal state. I've been thinking about this ever since. Is it natural for humans to be happy under normal circumstances? Or like the above object, is an external influence required to push us towards happiness or sadness?

I alternately vacillate between agony and rage. Oh wait, that was after the breakup. I'm better now! If left alone I eventually right myself and start tinkering in my shop and make things.
