Thursday was a good day.

Started out at 4:30 AM, went to bed early the previous day, you see. Got in to work at 5:40 AM. Finished work
for the day at 2:00 PM. And I skipped lunch. So that meant that, at 2:00 PM, I had completed 8 hours of work. It was a warm February day and I get no
overtime. No reason to stay.

Spent the afternoon biking around the French Quarter,
reading at the coffeeshop, having a beer at the Balcony.

The Quarter was nice and I needed the exercise but the
time spent sitting watching and drinking was much more
invigorating. Everyone was out walking and shopping
and playing; one young man was walking around playing high screeching elephant notes on his trumpet, one of those stereotypes of New Orleans life that you never expect to see. I sat on the balcony overlooking
Magazine Street and sipped beer and reaffirmed my love for this neighborhood, all of the stray cats and all of the potholes and all of the drunken regulars and all of it mine.

After this I went to Canal Place with Sarah and her
friends to see Adaptation. A bit too long but worth your money.

And after that out to a bar on Decatur, technically a
daiquiri bar but to order a daiquiri there would mark
you as a tourist and everyone hates tourists. The bar was full of layabouts, service industry workers, and
neer-do-wells and people were swilling directly from the four-dollar pitchers. There were three bikes in the bar, unchained and haphazardly leaning against stools, and this put me immediately at ease. Any bar that lets someone take a bike in and lean it up against a back wall is a bar that is run by good people.

Becca and a few others met Sarah and I at the bar. Becca is short and spiky and punchy and adorable, but taken, apparently by a man who normally prefers the attentions of other men. After a few Mind Erasers we all went to the Bourbon Pub and there he met up with a friend and the three of them, Becca and the two men, made out with each other. This was very enjoyable to watch. Especially after even more Mind Erasers. I do recall seeing someone receive a blow job there, not hidden and broken up by security, both the guard and the men gave each other sheepish and apologetic shrugs, and I remember thinking Oh, look, oral sex and not thinking about it again. And then Cafe Angeli for early morning food and then home for two hours of sleep.

As for me I am planning bedtime. I can barely focus on the screen right now and the only thing thats making this entry lucid is a spellchecker. This early bedtime is a shame because I just learned it is Chriss last night in town. I like Chris but I have never understood him and we were never close. Its a shame that hes leaving but everyone who moves to New Orleans young leaves. Thats the way this town is. So, Chris, best of luck.
